ÀÛ¾÷µéÀ» ¾Æ¿ì¸£´Â Fake tale À̶ó´Â Á¦¸ñÀº fairy tale ÀÇ ¹Ý´ëµÇ´Â Àǹ̷Π¸¸µç ´Ü¾îÀÌ´Ù . Áï , ¿©¼ºÀ¸·Î¼­ , ±×¸®°í ±× ÀÌÀü¿¡ Àΰ£À¸·Î¼­ ¼¼»ó¿¡ ºÎµúÈ÷´Â ÁöÁ¡µé°ú ±×°ÍÀ» ±Øº¹ÇÏ´Â ¹æ¾î±âÁ¦·Î¼­ ȯŸÁö¸¦ À̾߱â ÇϰíÀÚ ÇÑ´Ù . ÀÌ È¯»óÀû Ç㱸 (fake tale) ´Â Àͼ÷ÇÑ µ¿È­ (fairy tale) ó·³ ¾Æ¸§´äÁö¸¸Àº ¾ÊÁö¸¸ , ¿ì¸®°¡ ¸ö ´ã°í »ì¾Æ°¡°í ÀÖ´Â ÀÌ ¼¼»óÀÇ ¿ì½À°íµµ ¾¹¾µÇÑ ´Ü¸éÀ» º¼ ¼ö ÀÖÀ» °ÍÀÌ´Ù .

 

 

The fragmented vision, internet, TV, magazines and all kinds of media stained with distortion and misunderstanding fill the world today. In expressing such, it has already been long since Jean Baudrillard's concept of the ¡®simulacrum' where virtual reality controls the actual reality has become a banal word. We are living in a world today where the image is valued more than the truth, and style is more important than being genuine.

 

Among many distortions on the truth, I focus on the distortion of the image of the women's body. My work attempts to speak about the majority of people who numbly absorb the explicitly suggestive sensual content on internet news and various internet post boards, and the stimulation and violence that we, living in this reality, pose on each others. My desire is for a world that does not mistake the non-identified woman that we consume on daily basis as being real, the woman whose body that's used as a tool in the manifestation of the male sexual fantasy and entertainment. Therefore, my work roots from the following questions:

 

How do women really live?

What do women really want?

 

Because I am a woman, it started with an observation of my own body and desires. I wanted to contemplate, imagine and depict the body that is free from the gaze of others and the society, a body that is honest to its desires. So, I used my body as a subject for my photographs and drawings, which were used in amalgamation to visualize a surreal but concrete image.

The title that sums up this work is Fake Tale , which reflects the opposite meaning of fairy tale. In other words, they speak of the fantasy as a defense mechanism to conquer the points that I face as a woman and an artist.

This fantastical fiction ( fake tale ) may be beautiful like the familiar fairy tale, but the intention of my work is to present a piece of the unpalatable truth .

ȤÀÚ´Â °úÇаú ÀÇÇÐÀÌ ¹ßÀüÇß´Ù°í ¹Ý¹ÚÇÒ Áöµµ ¸ð¸¥´Ù. ÷´Ü°úÇÐÀÇ ¼öÇý¸¦ ¹ÞÀ» ¼ö ÀÖ´Â Á¶°ÇÀÎ ¡®µ·'µµ Ÿ°í³ª´Â ¼¼»óÀÌ´Ù. ¼¼»óÀÌ °øÆòÇÒ ¼ö´Â ¾ø´ÙÁö¸¸ ¿Ü¸ð¿Í ÀçÈ­°¡ ±ä¹ÐÈ÷ °áÇÕµÈ ¾ç±ØÈ­Çö»óÀº Á¡Á¡ ´õ ½ÉÇØÁú °ÍÀÌ´Ù.

My works are about a desire for being loved and having self-esteem. Judging a person by his/her appearance is a matter of common knowledge. It is not strange that trendy how-to-loose-weight rules. A body has become a lab. Physical attraction must be considered to satisfy such desire.

To judge people by the way they look is quite common in our society. We are requested to judge promptly, and consume lots of images on the Internet. Such images are more favored than texts on the Internet, and our likes and dislikes for them are decided momently. Netizens evaluate them by posting their mentions on the Internet. They frequently debate the pros and cons on some images.
In particular, one of the most eye-catching among netizens is the female body. (Recently, some shows a particular concern with the male body, but it is far less than the female body.) They discuss if some woman in a picture is beautiful or not, if her beauty is authentic or not. Their response to the picture appears explosive. As feminist artist Babara Kruger commented, the Internet space for netizens' comments recalls a battlefield. The female body still remains as the subject of heated debates.
What's noticeable is that an ideal women's body is far from a real one. An entirely thin, yet partly ample body is often regarded as ideal. That is surely close to a fantastic image, but we feel familiar to it due to frequent contacts through the mass media. People usually spend more time in a virtual world than this real world. The conventional images obtained from the mass media are deeply impressed on our mind. They are thought of as closer to the genuine.
I draw sexy girls that are consumed through the Internet. This sexy girl album has its own desire and aesthetic sense. Some sexy women pose against exquisitely decorated indoor space or natural scenes. They do roleplay to be consumed. They are substitutes for the male's desire for the temptress. Their luxuriously decorated body images are posed on the Internet in the name of a pictorial album. Their poses appear highly charged but not funky essentially.
They adapt themselves to a male-dominating, patriarchal system, offering mere pleasure. The body images I move to my canvas are represented and consumed repeatedly. The title ¡®colored' means ¡®tinged'. All canvases expressed with a variety of colors are not so different in their contents. Although colored with clumsy tones, my exaggerated typical images have no their own individuality.
I pay attention to fantasies for and gazes at the female body. I present the female images that are often found in the mass media, especially in yellow journals like Korea's sports tabloids. By presenting them through the canvas, I bring about the irony that we appreciate vulgar images in a formal, high-grade gallery space. I hope we are able to have an opportunity to look those images from different angles and reconsider their inner side through the medium of canvas.
